2026 Dental Consumer Price Index

A citation-ready snapshot of 23 current direct-to-consumer dental prices across seven categories. We publish the row-level dataset, calculation rules and source trail so writers, clinics and consumers can reuse the numbers without relying on a vague national average.

Headline finding

The spread between the lowest and highest tracked direct price varies sharply by category. In this snapshot, clear-aligner starting prices ranged from $549 to $1,295, while comparable upper + lower online retainer sets clustered much more tightly at $139 to $199. Premium device categories showed the widest relative gaps, including LED whitening kits from $53.99 to $249.

Prices = number of tracked price observations used to calculate that category's range and median. Medians are simple medians of the comparable observations shown. Remi's $99 two-night-guard club bundle is listed in the row-level dataset but excluded from the single-guard night-guard median because the unit basis differs.

What the snapshot says by category

Clear aligners: price dispersion is large

The four remote clear-aligner starting prices in this snapshot span $746 from lowest to highest. That gap is large enough that readers should compare what the starting price actually includes—impressions or scans, treatment monitoring, refinements and retainers—rather than treating the headline figure as a complete cost.

Online retainers: direct prices cluster closely

The four comparable upper + lower clear-retainer observations have a median of $144.50. At this price level, reorder convenience, stored scans or impressions, remake terms and replacement programs can matter as much as a $10–$20 difference in the first purchase.

Night guards: compare the unit before comparing the price

Comparable single custom night guards in our tracked set ranged from $89 to $179.99. Remi's $99 club offer includes two guards, so we disclose it in the dataset but do not mix it into the single-guard median.

Electric toothbrushes: the tracked DTC cluster is narrow

The four tracked direct electric-toothbrush handle prices ranged from $65 to $79.99. That narrow spread makes replacement-head cost, battery, pressure feedback and warranty more useful differentiators than the handle price alone.

Whitening kits: premium positioning creates a much wider range

The tracked LED-kit prices ranged from $53.99 to $249. This is the largest multiple between low and high observations in the snapshot, so buyers should compare active ingredients, refills, guarantees and device features before assuming the most expensive system is proportionally more effective.

Methodology

  1. Scope. We included direct-to-consumer products and treatment offers already monitored by Dental Verdicts in September 2026.
  2. Observed price. We recorded the publicly displayed direct or sale price available in our latest tracked update. Prices can change after the observation date.
  3. Comparable units. Category medians use reasonably comparable units. Different bundles are disclosed rather than silently normalized.
  4. No national-average claim. This is a market snapshot of the listed providers, not a statistically representative estimate of every U.S. dental price.
  5. Source trail. Our category buying guides document the current source pages and product details used for the tracking.
